Policy Manager – Position Vacant
Nelson Based (preferred)
The New Zealand aquaculture industry is one of the most efficient and sustainable forms of protein production on the planet. Our marine farmers produce the world’s best seafood and our premium products are in demand in over 80 countries. Our industry is still in its infancy but already employs over 3000 Kiwis and is the lifeblood of regional towns.
With tremendous potential to sustainably grow, Aquaculture is New Zealand’s primary industry of the future, and we are looking for a policy and planning professional to help unlock potential for the industry, our communities, and New Zealand.
Aquaculture New Zealand is the national representative body for the country’s Greenshell mussel, King salmon and Pacific oyster farmers. We are an energetic professional team with real pride in our sector and in what we do.
An outstanding opportunity now exists for an experienced professional to steer the industry’s planning, policy and environmental efforts with strategic advice and expertise.
As Policy Manager you will implement and manage all AQNZ policy and planning submissions, and engage with Government, councils, Iwi, environmental groups, and communities to promote integrated plans and policies.
You will advocate for flexibility and agility with policies and plans that can adapt to climate change and enable a new generation of aquaculture opportunities and transformational growth. Your excellent relationship building, and communication skills will help key stakeholders recognise the positive ecosystem services provided by our farms and their contribution to our communities’ economic, cultural and social wellbeing.
This wide-ranging role will also see you facilitating spat management planning, advocating food safety and maritime safety, as well as providing strategic oversight of the A+ environmental sustainability programme.
Ideally, you will be an outstanding communicator with relevant qualifications and experience in policy or planning. Previous experience in aquaculture planning and policy matters would be desirable.
This is a real opportunity to apply your passion, professionalism and specialist knowledge and make a significant and meaningful impact on the future growth of this exciting sector of New Zealand’s economy.
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience.
Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday June 5, 2020.
