STEPHEN TOPLIS
Stephen is the BNZ’s Head of Research. He has been with the bank since 2001. Prior to this his employment included Chief Economist Deutsche Securities, Chief Economist BT Securities, Chief Economist Doyle Paterson Brown and Chief Economist Fay Richwhite.
He is located in BNZ’s Wellington Markets Division where he is charged with providing an economic and political overview for the Bank’s wholesale operation and its clients. Stephen is regarded as one of the leading economic and political spokespeople in New Zealand and is highly sought after as an adviser, speaker and media commentator.
Importantly, Stephen has built strong domestic relationships throughout New Zealand including with leading CEOs, the Reserve Bank, Treasury, media and politicians.
At university Stephen completed a BSocSci in Computer Science before moving on to do a Masters in Economics.
Stephen is currently contracted to the Hugo Group, a consultancy, which provides economic and political advice to a select group of New Zealand Chief Executives.
Previously he has been a member of the Government-appointed Savings Working Group and the Advisory Committee on Economic Statistics.
