Aquaculture Diver

Salary: $60,000 - $100,000

An aquaculture diver works under strict safety procedures, using dive equipment to support the farming of species such as salmon and mussels.

The role includes inspecting, maintaining and repairing underwater structures and equipment, and assisting with day-to-day farm operations to ensure healthy stock and efficient, safe production.

What you’ll do

  • Carry out tasks as directed by the Field Team Leader or Coordinator.

  • Install, inspect, and repair nets to protect fish stocks and prevent interaction with seals and other predators.

  • Maintain mooring and pen systems in line with company policy to reduce risk to fish welfare and farm infrastructure.

  • Support a range of in-water operations as required, including airlifting, equipment recovery, and mortality retrieval.

  • Take responsibility for the care, safe use, and maintenance of all equipment, including dive gear, small plant, ROVs, and vessels.

  • Operate vessels safely and maintain them to a high standard.

What we’re looking for

Essential requirements

  • NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent).

  • WORKSAFE Occupational Diving Certificate of Competence (COC) in Aquaculture.

  • Current Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Services (DHMS) medical clearance.

  • At least one year’s experience in aquaculture or commercial diving.

Note: Some employers may support you to complete your diving qualification as part of your role while working on the farm.

For qualified divers

  • Recognised commercial diving certification such as ADAS, HSE, IMCA, or SSBA (to 30 m or 50 m), or equivalent.

  • WORKSAFE Occupational Diving Certificate of Competence (COC) in Construction Part 2 or 3.

  • SRL certification (<24 m).

  • Marine HIAB certification.

  • One to two years’ experience in construction diving.

  • Experience working on commercial vessels.

  • First Aid - renewed every three years

  • Oxygen Administration - renewed annually

  • CPR - renewed annually

  • Worksafe CoC - renewed every 5 years
