Marine Engineer
Salary: $60,000 - $113,000
Marine Engineers are responsible for maintaining and operating diesel engines and essential onboard systems on inshore fishing vessels and harvesters. This includes propulsion, electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, and steering.
They play a critical role in ensuring vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in a way that protects both crew and the marine environment.
What you’ll do
Maintain, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems on inshore vessels
Ensure the safe and efficient operation of propulsion and auxiliary systems
Carry out maintenance and repair work on harvesters and associated equipment
Complete routine inspections, safety checks, and preventative maintenance
Support vessel operations by responding to technical issues as they arise
What we’re looking for
Pre-Trade Engineering qualification with employer support toward a Marine Engineering Apprenticeship OR
New Zealand Certificate in Marine Engineering Class 6 (Level 4)
Minimum 200 logged sea hours
Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety
Build on your qualifications
New Zealand Certificate in Marine Engineering – Class 5
First Aid certification
