Enviro and Sustainability Manager
Salary: $60,000 - $100,000
Environmental and Sustainability Managers in aquaculture are responsible for shaping and delivering environmental strategies that support sustainable, responsible farming.
They ensure compliance with resource consents, licences, and environmental regulations, while fostering strong relationships with external stakeholders.
This role includes monitoring environmental performance, managing biosecurity risks, leading audits, and keeping ahead of regulatory changes. By balancing operational needs with ecological responsibility, these managers help ensure aquaculture operations thrive in harmony with the natural environment.
What you’ll do
Oversee resource consents, monitor regulatory changes, and ensure compliance with standards such as the RMA, EEZ, and ASC
Monitor water quality, ecosystem health, and wider ecological impacts
Manage environmental data collection, analysis, and reporting
Contribute to pest management, biosecurity planning, and ecological risk assessments
Develop and implement sustainability initiatives across energy use, waste reduction, biodiversity, carbon emissions, and—depending on employer scope—fish welfare, social licence, and employee well-being
Engage with iwi, councils, DOC, Fish & Game, landowners, and other stakeholders to support transparent and responsible aquaculture practices
Participate in collaborative research and community or industry-led environmental initiatives
What we’re looking for
A relevant degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Sustainability, Aquaculture, or a related field
Strong analytical skills, regulatory awareness, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
Commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable aquaculture practices
Build on your qualifications
Postgraduate study or Master’s degree in a relevant field
Additional training in environmental management, biosecurity, auditing, or compliance
