Nursery Technician

Salary: $54,000 - $85,000

Nursery Technicians play a key role in supporting the early development of shellfish, ensuring stock is healthy, well-maintained, and ready for transfer to farms.

This is a hands-on, process-driven role suited to people with a genuine interest in animal care and production systems.

Ideally, you will have previous experience in a hatchery or nursery environment. The role operates on a rotating roster, including weekend work.

What you’ll do

  • Operate and maintain nursery systems including upwellers, tanks, filtration units, and pumps

  • Carry out biosecurity procedures to prevent contamination and disease

  • Grade and count spat to monitor growth and survival

  • Record accurate data on stock health, growth performance, and environmental conditions

  • Assist with transferring stock to farms once size and condition targets are met

  • Follow Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Quality requirements at all times

What we’re looking for

  •  1–3 years’ relevant industry experience, or recent completion of Level 3 and 4 certificates (e.g. NMIT), or a relevant bachelor’s degree

  • Physically fit and comfortable with manual tasks

  • A team player with good attention to detail

  • Full, clean driver’s licence

  • Willingness to learn and build on your qualifications
