Nursery Technician
Salary: $54,000 - $85,000
Nursery Technicians play a key role in supporting the early development of shellfish, ensuring stock is healthy, well-maintained, and ready for transfer to farms.
This is a hands-on, process-driven role suited to people with a genuine interest in animal care and production systems.
Ideally, you will have previous experience in a hatchery or nursery environment. The role operates on a rotating roster, including weekend work.
What you’ll do
Operate and maintain nursery systems including upwellers, tanks, filtration units, and pumps
Carry out biosecurity procedures to prevent contamination and disease
Grade and count spat to monitor growth and survival
Record accurate data on stock health, growth performance, and environmental conditions
Assist with transferring stock to farms once size and condition targets are met
Follow Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Quality requirements at all times
What we’re looking for
1–3 years’ relevant industry experience, or recent completion of Level 3 and 4 certificates (e.g. NMIT), or a relevant bachelor’s degree
Physically fit and comfortable with manual tasks
A team player with good attention to detail
Full, clean driver’s licence
Willingness to learn and build on your qualifications
