Hatchery Technician
Salary: $54,000 - $85,000
Hatchery Technicians play a vital role in the successful production of shellfish, bringing a strong process-driven approach and a genuine interest in hatchery operations.
You will ideally have practical experience in microalgae production and/or larvae rearing within a hatchery environment. This role operates on a rostered basis and includes weekend work as part of a rotating schedule.
What you’ll do
Culture and monitor oyster larvae from egg through to spat
Maintain excellent water quality, feed microalgae, and monitor growth rates
Carry out biosecurity procedures including sterilising equipment and minimising cross-contamination
Accurately record and manage batch and production data
Support broodstock spawning and nursery transfers
Follow Health & Safety, Food Safety and Quality systems at all times
Assist with larvae rearing and algae production operations
What we’re looking for
1–3 years’ relevant industry experience, or recent completion of Level 3 and 4 certificates (e.g. NMIT), or a relevant bachelor’s degree
Physically fit and comfortable working in a hands-on environment
A team player with strong attention to detail and a positive attitude
A willingness to learn and build on your qualifications
