RAS Technician

Salary: $60,000 - $85,000

As an Aquaculture RAS Technician, you’ll play a key part in caring for and growing species like kingfish and salmon in our recirculating aquaculture systems.

Your day will involve feeding, monitoring fish health, and keeping their environment in top shape. You’ll get hands-on with everything from equipment checks and maintenance to cleaning, data recording, and helping with harvests.

It’s an active, practical role — perfect if you enjoy working with animals and don’t mind getting your hands wet!

What you’ll be doing

  • Keep tanks and systems spotless – clean, inspect, and maintain fish tanks and feeding equipment.

  • Feed the fish on schedule and in line with stock biomass.

  • Check water quality to make sure conditions stay just right.

  • Spot any issues early – report signs of disease, injury, or stress.

  • Help with harvest prep when it’s time to bring the fish in.

  • Look after the gear – maintain monitoring tools and RAS equipment.

  • Track fish growth and condition to keep performance on target.

You will also need to:

  • Follow strict hygiene and bio-security protocols

  • Adhere to Health and Safety standards

  • Maintain RAS infrastructure

  • Clean equipment & environment

  • Keep good records

What we’re looking for

  • A tertiary qualification in aquaculture – great to have, but not essential.

  • A good level of physical fitness and a love for active, outdoor work.

  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude.

  • Keen attention to detail – you notice the little things that make a big difference.

  • Some basic plumbing or low-voltage electrical wiring experience is a bonus.

  • The ability to follow processes and routines carefully and consistently.

Build on your qualifications

  • PITO L4 in Aquaculture Fin Fish

  • First Aid

  • Health and Safety training (confined space & working at heights)
