Advisor / Manager
Salary: $80,000 - $120,000
In a Communications role you will help build the profile of the organisation and its products in the aquaculture sector.
You will manage public relations, media engagement, and industry reputation, while promoting the sector and building trust with stakeholders.
This role combines strategic thinking, storytelling, and proactive management of communications across multiple channels.
What you’ll do
The keys tasks for this role are:
Develop and implement strategic communications, PR, and advocacy plans to support the organisation’s objectives.
Manage media relations, respond to enquiries, and proactively position the organisation in the public eye.
Lead industry campaigns to enhance the reputation and awareness of aquaculture products and practices.
Oversee the creation of content for websites, social media, newsletters, and publications.
Monitor, measure, and report on the effectiveness of communications and advocacy activities.
Advise leadership on reputation risks and opportunities, providing strategic guidance during crises.
Collaborate with internal teams, members, and industry partners to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with organisational goals.

Proven experience in communications, PR, advocacy, or brand management, ideally within food, seafood, or primary industries.
Strong media, stakeholder, and relationship management skills.
Ability to craft clear, persuasive messaging and manage sensitive or complex communications.
Experience in campaign planning, digital content, and social media strategy.
Strategic thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Build on your qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in:
Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
Alternative pathways include:
Diploma in Communications, Marketing, or Media (NZQA Level 5–6)
On-the-job progression from communications, media, advocacy, or marketing roles
Valued skills in aquaculture:
Knowledge of seafood industry, sustainability practices, and biosecurity considerations
Understanding of regulatory requirements for food marketing and public communications
Experience with digital communications tools, media monitoring, and CRM systems
