Supply & Logistics

Logistics / Supply Chain / Procurement / Operations

Salary: $55,000 - $120,000

Supply chain and logistics roles ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of material and product flows through planning, forecasting, supplier coordination, and efficient procurement systems.

You will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing the goods and services required to support aquaculture operations.

This includes ensuring farm sites, hatcheries, processing facilities, and support teams have the materials, equipment, feed, and contracted services they need—on time, at the right quality, and at the best value.

What you’ll do

In Logistics, Supply Chain or Procurement roles you will assist in ensuring the smooth flow of feed, equipment, and harvested seafood across the aquaculture operation.

You will:

  • Coordinate transport and deliveries of feed, equipment, and product across farms, hatcheries, and processing sites.

  • Manage inventory and warehousing to ensure essential supplies are always available.

  • Work with suppliers and transport providers to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable supply of goods and services.

  • Negotiate supplier contracts and monitor performance, quality, and compliance with food safety and biosecurity requirements.

  • Forecast demand and align purchasing and logistics with production and operational needs.

  • Track purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supply issues to support smooth daily operations.

  • Identify improvements to logistics, procurement, and supply chain processes to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

What we’re looking for

For supply and logistics roles in aquaculture, we value people who bring:

  • Understanding of cold chain logistics and the unique requirements of transporting chilled, frozen, or live seafood products.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, including food safety, traceability, and biosecurity standards relevant to aquaculture operations.

  • Proficiency with ERP and inventory management systems, with the ability to maintain accurate stock records and support efficient supply chain planning.

  • Strong coordination and communication skills to work effectively with transport providers, farm teams, hatcheries, and processing facilities.

  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-moving operational environment.

Build on your qualifications

A solid foundation for a logistics or supply chain role in aquaculture can come from a range of pathways, including:

Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business

  • Commerce or Operations Management

Alternative pathways include:

  • A Diploma in Logistics or Supply Chain (NZQA Level 5–6)

  • On-the-job progression from warehouse, transport, procurement, or related coordination roles

These qualifications and experiences help develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to manage transport, inventory, and cold chain requirements in the aquaculture sector.

Where to from here?

Experienced Supply Chain or Operations Managers can progress into executive positions such as Head of Supply Chain, Director of Operations, or broader General Manager roles within aquaculture or the wider primary industries.
